The Ancient Studies Institute was begun in May 1996 by Paul Emile Anders.  The Institute offered translation and research services and instruction in Latin, ancient Greek, Sanskrit, French, German, and ESL.

Originally named Ancient Studies Center, it was later changed to Ancient Studies Institute.  At the Institute, Anders began teaching Latin and ancient Greek and occasionally French and German and English.

The Institute was authorized by the State of Massachusetts to award professional development points. Teachers in Massachusetts are required to accumulate PDPs to maintain their teaching license.

As the number of students increased, it was possible to concentrate on the ancient languages and the modern languages were dropped.

Susan Moore taught the Sanskrit and Paul Emile Anders taught the other languages.  Classes were offered in several venues.  Thomas Burke succeeded Moore as Sanskrit instructor.  Later, Linda Levitan and Hélène Perdicoyianni-Paleologou also taught courses. Burke later taught Latin also.  Devin Petrick compiled lists of Greek grammatical terms for the Institutes website.

The Institute stopped accepting students in 2018 and is now exclusively a research institute. Current interests are the life of Joan of Arc and the life and works of Lactantius.
